Section 504 is a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination based upon disability. Neuropsychological evaluation and assessment generally qualifies as a basis for providing for 504 accommodations whether for placement in public and private elementary and secondary schools, at the college and university level (e.g., PSAT, SAT), or for graduate school admission (e.g., GRE, LSAT, MCAT, GMAT) or post-graduate licensure (e.g., NYS Bar Exam, Medical Review and Licensing Boards, Psychology licensure).

ADULTS: I treat cognitive disorders such as problems in thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving as well as medical conditions that affect cognitive, emotional, and social functioning including dementia, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and stroke.

TREATMENT: Many of these problems are treatable with the following forms of treatment:

Psychotherapies including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT & REBT), psychoanalytic therapy, and couples therapy. For those seeking to enhance and maintain their creative and cognitive abilities and skills for work and other areas of your life, I can offer specific recommendations and/or techniques.

Medication including referral to an in-house physician for psychoactive medications (prescriptions), but I can also make individualized recommendations for nootropic and promnestic drugs for cognitive and memory improvement, and advice on phytonutrients and nutriceuticals for their mental health as well as anti-aging benefits (e.g., Omega-3s appear to reduce anxiety and depression; resveratrols in red wine appear to induce anti-aging effects in the human body).

Neurocognitive rehabilitation for cognitive and memory problems using computers and software programs, external memory aids (such as an electronic organizer in a smartphone), and other time-tested techniques.

Hypnosis is effective for a number of problems including obsessive-compulsive behaviors, weight loss, and smoking cessation (often in tandem with Varenicline or "Chantix," which blocks the effects of nicotine on the brain).

Relaxation techniques including meditation, therapeutic massage, yoga, and physical exercise reduce anxiety and facilitate positive mood states.

Physical exercise is particularly effective in reducing the symptoms of anxiety and depression including social anxiety, mild to moderate depression, panic disorder, and phobias. Strength-conditioning (using individual weights or machines), cardiovascular exercise (e.g., running, biking, swimming), as well as Pliates, Feldenkrais, Yoga, and Alexander techniques, among others, are all potentially beneficial.

Nutritional and lifestyle changes can substantially alter your quality of life and I am a strong proponent of these approaches.

Journal writing as well as art, music, and dance therapies have many therapeutic benefits and I can discuss various options with you at your initial consultation. One such application of motor skills, rhythm, and timing to a range of disorders is the Interactive Metronome.

Bibliotherapy: I may ask you to read a book or article, if this is appropriate to your problem or condition, for educative purposes and insight into your situation.

I work with various other professionals (e.g., primary care physicians, psychiatrists, neurologists, ob/gyn physicians, physiatrists - physicians who care for patients in need of physical rehabilitation, nutritionists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, speech-language pathologists, as well as physical and occupational therapists and therapeutic massage specialists) for straightforward and appropriate referral, if necessary.
